The best way to describe this recently overhauled alto is to say that it is a Bel Air model (see our mint tenor!) with additional keys : G# and high D trill keys and high F# (featured as a palm key!). This horn was basically an one-owner-then-closet horn and the only metal repairs made were those necessary to unfreeze various screws and rods (the microtuner is still frozen though… does anyone care?). It only has one tiny ding on the bow (can you find it?) and its thick silver plate is still there, conservatively, at 95%. Its sturdiness and quality of workmanship are reminiscent of an SML’s but it boasts an even bigger bore (cf. the additional low E tone hole in the back) which allows it to roar like a good vintage American horn – we mean: pre WWII Conns and Bueschers. The tone is definitely French though: at low volumes rich and velvety, in particular in the low register.
