  The first detail of note with this alto is that it has been stripped of its lacquer some time ago. However, the buffing wasn’t excessive, as the engraving is still very visible and we didn’t find any issues with the tone holes. Besides two non-original key guards, Buffet pundits would also notice that the neck looks like that of a later Super Dynaction although this is an early model which we dated to 1959. That’s because its original neck (similar to that of the Dynaction models) was added a brace to it. In any case, this recently overhauled horn is an excellent example of early SDAs at the time when Buffet SDAs and Selmer Mark VIs were… neck to neck! It boasts the qualities that have made this French maker appreciated, first by classical players, and more recently by jazzmen: a rich tone, fluid action and easy ergonomics, and a warm low end. You will find these qualities in our SDA tenor as well.
