This is a 1976 Buffet S1 in original lacquer with a recent overhaul. In order to keep close to the original factory set up, metal resonators were installed. The S1 has been the "reference" alto saxophone for modern/classical players since it came out, due inter alia to it's flawless mechanics and original design features (patented rollerless low C/Eb keys, split low Bb plateau) that allow very fast playing with ergonomic freedom. This one seems to have been played repeatedly in a performance setting for other styles of music. Evidence of this is seen on the lip of the bell where it has been scratched by a clip-on mic while the rest of the horn shows normal wear for a saxophone of this age. There are no signs of abuse or repair whatsoever. Like all early S1's, this one is tuned to 442 Hz (the European standard) and has that warm low end and is a tad bright in the upper range, characteristic of Buffets.
